Introductory Bobath Course for
Therapy Assistants

Course leaders: Virginia Knox and Heather Holgate, The Bobath Centre


This is a two day Introductory Course aimed at introducing Therapy Assistants to the Bobath concept and helping them to work more effectively with children with cerebral palsy.

Who is the course for?
The course is suitable for Therapy Assistants (physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech
and language therapy) who have more than one year’s experience of working with children
with cerebral palsy.


Aim:
To broaden the Therapy Assistant’s understanding of the Bobath Concept and its application to children with cerebral palsy.


Objectives:
At the end of the course, you will be able to:

1. Give an overview of the Bobath Concept and how it is applied to children with
    cerebral palsy

2. Describe the different types of cerebral palsy, how they affect function and
    some principles of treatment

3. Understand how therapists working within the Bobath concept apply their skills
   to activities such as play and communication.
